I want to live the good life with a good wife
Go to the store and buy what I like
But I can’t do that if I sit on my ass
Waiting for the government to send me some cash
I have to be a man and put my life in my own hands
See me building a home on my land
You have to crawl before you walk set some goals
Life is way too short look up and you’re old
The “Man”
He used to be the man, many chicks in route
Had a really nice car, a lot of ‘juice’ and clout
Everybody in the hood knew who he was
He went to clubs in the city and received nothing but love
Sold drugs but never really had to hustle
Mean “mugs” would get him in a lot of scuffles
Described as a “player” different women every night
Some black some white none he ever really liked
He was 27 but had a taste for ‘younglings’
Pulled up in a Benz see the teenagers coming
Slipped up and sexed a chick with H.I.V
Sold poison to his people see him D.I.E
The moral of the story is you reap what you sew
And you never really know when it’s your time to go
So you have to live right and have do right
Need to pray ever night and live Christ like!
Moral Decay
My purpose in life is to be a leader
Forget drugs I’d rather be a knowledge dealer
My community really needs a make over
Instead of homes we’d rather invest in range rovers
Mentally enslaved, we have our brains shackled
You can never win a war from just one battle
You have to do it by accumulation we’re facing mutilation
It isn’t from them hating, It’s from the route we’re taking
It’s like we’re all racing, but last place we’re taking
We’re like crabs in a barrel and that’s the dead truth
They say you aren’t ‘Real’ if the ‘Streets’ don’t feel you
But I’m going make them listen, that’s my main mission
Forget prison, I’d rather pay tuition
Never stagnant we have to keep it moving
What are we proving with all of this evil we’re doing?
Only The Strong Survive (Part 2)
Anything easy isn’t worth doing
Because when you do it then what are you proving?
Hate to sound like a preacher but many need to hear this
A lot of brothers running around ‘Lit’ like they’re fearless
Watching rap videos, like that’s realness
Watching gangsta movies now they want to fill clips
We have to let the youngsters know that there’s more to life
Than ratchet women, rims, and chains of ice
Cars and clothes depreciate in value
In life you’re only going to have what the lord allows you
Plus, life is what you make it so stay focused
A lot of people still trying to keep up wit the Joneses
Live within your means, or your bound to struggle
Your life is your business so don’t get hustled
The Victim
Personal responsibility and accountability we sometimes Lack
We can't always play the victim role just because we're black
That's the easy road due to our built up frustration
In many cases we're co-conspirators of our own degradation
It is true that we don't own many planes or boats
But at the end of the day it's one's personal choice to slang coke
We've gone astray from the things that made our community great
The incarceration population is linked to high school drop out rates
We must break the cycle of self-hate and community pillage
To raise productive young people it's still going to take a village
We must be Pro-Education because without it leads to poverty
Lets remove us from the pitfalls of Victim-ology
The vast majority of us consider ourselves Christian individuals
Yet too many in our every day lives fail to apply God's principles
Lets encourage each other, success we can all reach it
Even the crabs that escape from the barrel eventually get eaten
Lost And Confused
Lost and confused was this young dude
Thought he was too cool to finish school
Dropped out the 8th grade he should’ve stayed
Hardheaded and figured he had to get paid
Positive Role models he didn’t have none
The men he looked up to wanted to blast guns
Or were into drugs and some were locked up
A couple had a few young girls knocked up
He thought that was the way of the world
So by the age of 16 he had a baby girl
His path of manhood went straight through Rikers
At the age of 22 he shared cells with lifers
Got out at 28 on the block that’s old
He wasn’t ready for the world to be so cold
Can somebody help him? He needs direction
At 29 years old its time for progression
Keeping The Faith
Ashes to Ashes and dust to dust
Success is a must in God I trust
In this world of lust our worst enemy is us
When we fight and fuss and get mad and cuss
Life is tough because the world is rough
But we can’t give up, we just can’t give up
We Have to keep the wheels turning, keep the fire burning
Never stop learning and never stop yearning
For a better way, life is a maze
Wishing for brighter days, I give praise
To my lord and Savior, Yeshua Ben
And Yahweh, the one who fathered him
I know it bothers them to see me blessed
Evil men in this world want to see me stressed
They want to see me lose faith, see my spirit break
But I will keep persevering no matter the stakes
The Truth Can Hurt
I used to want to be like Andre Rison
Now I want to teach like Michael Eric Dyson
With this platform my purpose is to educate
Keep climbing and try not to procrastinate
There’s no debate that some lack common sense
And what I’m building some want to topple it
They say I’m arrogant because I went to college
But that doesn’t mean I’m smarter I just invested in knowledge
I say I’m misunderstood because I’m not “Hood”
Since when has representing ignorance ever been good?
I’m going to keep it real and show you how sad it gets
I see more rims in the hood than high school graduates
We shall over come? We haven’t overcame it
The way we think as a people let’s change it
Let’s face it, we’re in a state of emergency
You think you made it because you have a little currency?
Real Talk
What’s my purpose in life? Is it to become a banger?
Or is to become an ordinary knowledge ‘slanger’?
I’m filled with anger I can’t understand the ignorance
Can't believe what I see its ridiculous
These predicaments we get in are nonsense
Sometimes I wonder if we're using our conscience
Twisted Logic, we’re not thinking straight
‘Tight Whips’ and ‘Big Chains’, thinking life's great
But it isn’t, we’re still shackled mentally
Even though we’re not chained down physically
Chemically, we’re killing ourselves<
br />
Because drugs and alcohol destroy our health
As a people, we have a long way to go
We always hate, we never say “way to go!”
Black, White, Latin, Asian, we’re all a team
Everybody was in Martin Luther King’s Dream
After My Death
I wonder how it’s going to be when I'm not here?
How's life going to be for those I hold dear?
Will my haters toast it up and say cheers?
Will people forget me in a couple years?
But my worst fear is for my kids and wife
That another man comes and doesn’t treat them right
Everything is in God's hands so I'm fortunate
But we all played a part in the course we went
They say the path less traveled is the hardest
Regardless, I will choose the smartest
I’ve seen a lot of folks go down the wrong road
Seen more trade their souls for fool’s gold
I hope and I pray when my day comes
That I'm forgiven for the sins I've done
One of these mornings it wont be long
I'm on my way to heaven I'm coming home
The Past & The Future
In order to know where you’re headed, learn from the past
Plan for tomorrow, and make sure what you build will last
Everything at first sight isn’t always what it seems
We all have to dream like Martin Luther King
There will be times of discouragement, fear and stress
But always fight for human rights like Malcolm X
Marcus Garvey and Dubois didn’t always see eye to eye
Both wanted the best for their people their hardest they tried
Booker T. Washington was a slave before Emancipation
Encouraged his people to do for self and set a foundation
Through agriculture and education he came Up From Slavery
The 54th Massachusetts, and Tuskegee Airman displayed bravery
Buffalo Soldiers, Harlem Hell Fighters and the 5th Colored Calvary
Showed they were capable on the battlefield and fought valiantly
In order to know where you’re headed, learn from the past
Teach the leaders of tomorrow and what you build will last
“Never abandon your vision. Keep reaching to further your dreams.”
Benjamin Banneker
